Every Athlete Has a Story Worth Framing
Why McKinney Athletes Choose Paula Mason
In McKinney, Friday night football is practically a season of its own, and the roar inside McKinney ISD Stadium on a fall evening tells you everything about how this town feels about its athletes. Whether your student is a McKinney Lion, a McKinney North Bulldog, or a McKinney Boyd Bronco, the years of early practices and hard-fought games go by faster than any parent expects. Those years deserve more than a photo from the bleachers.
As a sports photographer serving McKinney and the surrounding north DFW area, I create personal sports portraits built around your athlete, their sport, and their gear. These are not team-picture-day photos. They are dramatic, one-on-one portraits, the kind of image that ends up framed on the wall and printed for the grandparents. Whether your athlete plays for their high school or a weekend club team, we will build a session that looks and feels like them.
One honest note: game-day and team coverage inside McKinney ISD is handled by the schools’ own contracted photographers. What I offer is different and personal, a dedicated session that is all about your athlete. It complements the school and team photos, it does not replace them.
McKinney Sports Sessions: What I Photograph
Every session is built around the athlete. Some of my favorites in the McKinney area include:
- Senior athlete portraits — the sports version of senior pictures, perfect for the McKinney ISD senior who wants their sport to be part of their graduation story.
- Individual action and hero shots — dramatic, magazine-style portraits with your athlete in full gear, lit to make them look every bit the competitor they are.
- Signing and commitment photos — for athletes moving on to play at the next level.
- Multi-sport and club athletes — from select soccer and baseball to volleyball, cheer, track, and everything in between.
We can shoot on location around McKinney at a field or court that means something to your athlete when it is available to us, or I can bring a clean, dramatic studio-style setup to you. Not sure what will look best? That is exactly what our pre-session chat is for. I photograph athletes all over the area, so if your ideal spot is a town over in Frisco or Plano, that is never a problem.
What’s Included?
So how does this work? A sports session with me is meant to be easy and, honestly, a lot of fun. We agree on a time and a McKinney-area location, your athlete brings their uniform, gear, and anything that tells their story (letter jacket, ball, bat, stick, medals), and I handle the rest.
Afterward, I edit the images and deliver the best shots to you digitally. Once delivered, the digital files are yours to use as you please. Professionally prepared prints and print products can be ordered directly from our website.
Please note that heavy digital retouching and special effects are not included in the basic session price. Check the Session Pricing Page for details about current pricing and what is included in my Standard and Deluxe session packages.
McKinney Sports Photo Shoot
A few timing tips for McKinney families. The best window for senior athlete portraits is the summer before senior year or early fall, before the season gets busy and before signing deadlines. If your athlete is committing to play in college, we will plan signing photos around National Signing Day in early February. And because fall is my busiest season with seniors and families, sports slots fill up fast, so reach out early. Check the Session Pricing Page for current pricing and package details.

Common Questions
Do you photograph McKinney ISD games?
My sessions are personal athlete portraits, not sideline game coverage. McKinney ISD schools have their own contracted photographers for team pictures and game days. What I create is a dedicated, one-on-one session built entirely around your athlete, the kind of standout portrait that team-picture day cannot give you. Many families do both.
How long is a session and what should my athlete bring?
Most sessions run about an hour, which is plenty of time for a few looks. Bring the full uniform, any alternate jerseys, and the gear that tells your athlete’s story, balls, bats, sticks, medals, or a letter jacket. If your athlete plays more than one sport, bring both, we can absolutely mix them.
Can we do senior pictures and sports portraits together?
Yes, and a lot of McKinney seniors do exactly that. We can combine a traditional senior look with an athletic look in one session, or plan an extended session for multiple locations. If you are focused on classic senior portraits, take a look at my McKinney senior pictures page too.
