Family Photos in Plano, Texas
Capture Today For Tomorrow
Why Take Family Photos in Plano?
One of the amazing things about families is that they are never the same; they’re always growing and changing. A professional family portrait is a great way to stop time and celebrate today while creating an heirloom that you will cherish and hand down through generations. Photos also make great gifts for grandparents.
Plano is the biggest of the cities I serve, and its parks give families an incredible range of settings without ever leaving town. Whether your crew is two people or twenty-two, whether the kids are in strollers or bringing their own kids, we’ll find a spot and a plan that fits.
Favorite Family Photo Locations in Plano
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve is the crown jewel: 200 acres of hills, wildflowers, and wooded trails that photograph like the Texas Hill Country. Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve offers meadows and creekside paths with plenty of room for kids to roam between shots. Bob Woodruff Park brings a lake, bridges, and shade trees, and Haggard Park in the Downtown Plano Arts District pairs a gazebo and pond with historic brick for families who want a more classic, polished look.
Evening sessions in these parks, about an hour before sunset, give us the soft golden light that makes skin tones glow and backgrounds melt away. For wardrobe, coordinate a two-or-three color palette, avoid big logos and busy patterns, and dress for walking. Most of all, come ready to have fun; the best family photos happen between the posed ones.

Butterflies or a Trip to the Grocery Store?
I was pulling out of my driveway yesterday to head to the grocery store (one of my least favorite tasks), and as I was backing out, I noticed a really beautiful black and yellow butterfly enjoying my crazy, wild Lantana. My grocery list was long, but it had also been...
Soccer and Baseball Pictures with the Sony 70-200. Is This Lens Enough?
For several years now, I have been taking pictures of my kids at their soccer and baseball games with my Sony A7 RIII using my 70-200 lens. I would say that this is easily my favorite out of all my lenses! However, as my kids continue to grow, so does the size of the...
Summer Time in Texas and Baseball…A Great Combination
Sports photography has been a passion of mine since my son started t-ball back when he was 4 years old. These days, you can find me following him with my camera at all of his baseball games. It is one of my favorite things to do. It’s a good thing, because he plays a...
Common Questions
What’s the best season for family photos in Plano’s parks?
Late October through November brings real fall color to Arbor Hills and Oak Point, and it’s my busiest stretch. Spring adds wildflowers and green everything. Summer sessions work great too, we just shoot in the last hour of daylight to beat the heat.
How many people can be in our session?
As many as your family has. From a family of three to a full multi-generation reunion, we’ll organize groupings during the consult so the session flows and everyone gets the combinations they want.
Do you help us figure out what to wear?
Always. After you book, I’ll share simple wardrobe guidance: coordinate two or three colors, avoid logos and heavy patterns, and dress for walking. You’re also welcome to text me outfit photos and I’ll weigh in.
Have a question I didn’t answer here? The full photo session FAQ covers a lot more, or just ask me directly.
