I’ve photographed families on the downtown square, under the trees at Erwin Park, and along the stone walkways of Adriatica, and every session finds a look that fits that family. One of my favorite recent shoots was a family photo session in downtown McKinney, and it shows exactly what the historic district can do for a family portrait.
Favorite Family Photo Locations in McKinney
Chestnut Square Historic Village is a treasure: restored 1800s homes, picket fences, and a chapel that give family portraits a timeless storybook feel. Historic Downtown McKinney around the square adds brick, murals, and that famous small-town charm. For nature lovers, Erwin Park on the north side offers prairie, woods, and big Texas sky, while Towne Lake Recreation Area gives us water views and playground breaks for little ones who need to burn off energy mid-session.
Sessions in your own neighborhood are always an option too. Familiar territory keeps young kids comfortable, and comfortable kids give us real smiles instead of forced ones. For help planning what everyone should wear, coordinate a palette of two or three colors, skip matching everything exactly, and choose practical shoes for walking.

So, how will this work? Family photos can seem stressful, so I try to make them easy (and fun). Simply put, I will meet you at a time and McKinney location we agree on and start taking pictures.
Afterwards, I’ll edit the pictures and deliver the best shots to you digitally. Once delivered, the digital picture files are yours to use as you please. Professionally prepared prints and print products can be ordered directly from our website.

Chestnut Square and the historic downtown square are the classics, especially for fall and Christmas-card sessions. Erwin Park is the pick for families who want nature and open sky. All three are within about ten minutes of each other.
Can you photograph our big multi-generation group?
Yes, and I love these sessions. Grandparents, cousins, new babies, everyone. We’ll plan groupings ahead of time during the consult so nobody stands around wondering what’s next, and everyone gets a combination they care about.
What if our toddler melts down mid-session?
Then our toddler is behaving exactly like a toddler. Breaks, snacks, and silliness are built into how I shoot. Some of my favorite family photos ever happened right after a meltdown ended in giggles.
