If you’ve got a Class of 2027 senior, this is your friendly nudge from behind the camera: don’t wait until the chaos of senior year hits full speed to schedule your senior pictures. A summer session might just be your secret weapon to make sure senior year goes as smoothly as possible.
Around here at Paula Mason Photography, luckily, summer tends to slow down a bit. Time to relax, recharge, and learn some new things in the world of photography. While I’m usually full speed ahead during the year, these warmer months open up like a wide, golden field at sunset… meaning you get first pick of dates, times, and locations. And yes, that dreamy light we all love? Summer shows up for that too.
More Flexibility = More Fun
Senior year gets busy fast. Between school, sports, college applications, and everything in between, schedules can feel like a game of Tetris trying to fit so many things into your busy schedule.
Booking in the summer gives you:
- More availability (no squeezing into tight fall calendars)
- Less stress (no rushing from practice to photos)
- More time to actually enjoy the experience
It’s a chance to slow things down and create something meaningful without watching the clock.
The “Mini Now, Mini Later” Strategy 🎓
Not ready to go all-in just yet? Totally fine.
One of my favorite options is:
- Book a Mini Session in the summer → capture a few beautiful, relaxed images now just before senior year begins
- Book another Mini in the spring → for just a few cap & gown pictures, graduation announcements, or a fresh seasonal look of your senior just before they cross that stage
Think of it like telling your senior’s story in chapters instead of cramming it all into one page. You can also watch for the specials – one of the popular specials is the Cap, Gown, & College T-shirt Mini Sessions that we offer in late April and May. This is a 15-20 minute session at your Highschool for a few quick pictures of your senior in their cap and gown and/or college t-shirt.
These are perfect for those of you who just want a few pictures of your senior in their cap and gown or in their college t-shirt. I usually do these at the high schools, but they really can be done anywhere. These sessions are quick and easy, and especially good for those seniors who aren’t interested in outfit changes or are hesitant to do a full session.

Platinum Sessions = The Ultimate Senior Story ✨
If you want all the options (and then some), the Platinum Session is where the magic really stretches its legs.
This includes:
- A multi-day session (two days) spread out however you want… summer + fall, fall + spring – – your call
- A Mini Session that can be used later for:
- Cap & gown photos
- Family photos
- Friend session for cap & gown or college t-shirts
- Or even a totally different look/location
It’s like building a full gallery that reflects your senior’s entire year, not just one afternoon.
Those are just a few things we offer over at Paula Mason Photography. There are actually several more options for you to choose from. Check out our website to read about all the sessions that might work for you and your senior.
Why Summer Just Works
Here’s the honest truth: senior year flies by. One minute you’re buying school supplies, the next you’re ordering graduation announcements and getting ready to watch your senior walk across the stage.
Summer gives you:
- Breathing room
- Creative freedom
- Locations that are not crowded
- An open calendar with more times to choose from
- And a head start before life gets busy with so many senior year activities
No homework. No late-night practices. Just your senior, feeling like themselves, with time to capture them. And you’ll be set up with a gallery of pictures ready for you to use for all the events you might need a picture for during your graduate’s senior year! No rushing around trying to find a great photo at the last minute – you’ll have an entire gallery ready for you.
Let’s Make It Easy 💛
