I set out early yesterday morning for a quick visit to Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. I was itching to take some fun wildlife photos, so I packed my camera gear in my Jeep and headed out. I was excited, because the weather forecast was sunny and hot! At least the forecast for Allen was…

As I pulled in to the refuge, I noticed the temperature dropping and lots of dark clouds rolling in! Hagerman is about an hour from my house and borders Lake Texoma. Guess I should’ve checked the weather in Oklahoma before leaving without the back half of the top to my Jeep! Oops…

This is the view I enjoyed from inside my (mostly) dry car while the storm passed!

After shooting pictures from inside my relatively dry Jeep (at least the front seats), the rain, thunder, and lightning passed and I was able to get out of my car and hike around a bit. I thought the quick visit was going to be a complete failure, but it turns out, getting stuck out in a storm without your windows, makes for a fun, exciting and muddy adventure.

And once the weather passed, I was able to get out of my car and hike several trails on the hunt for fun birds and other things to photograph. I found several birds, and as always, the views are amazing!

Have you ever been to Hagerman? If not, you should go. And now, during all this pandemic stuff, it is a perfect spot for your entire family to enjoy some outside time. Not only are there lots of trails to hike on foot, there are a few parks with picnic tables, and plenty of fishing holes if you like to fish!

You can learn more about Hagerman on the website Friends of Hagerman. There is lots of information about events, times you can visit, special programs, etc… You can also read more about it in the article Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge…One of My Happy Places that I wrote earlier this year on my blog BallCapMom.

I always enjoy my trips to Hagerman, but from now on, I’ll be sure to pack the windows in the back of my Jeep just in case…

Until next time…
