A few weeks ago, I wrote a short blog post titled Meet Harry and Hermione, Our Resident Eastern Screech Owls, about two owls that visited our backyard every single night!  We had so much fun watching them, and I was able to get some photos of them both, but especially Harry.  Hermione seemed to be a bit camera shy, so I didn’t get as many pictures of her.

The other night we were out swimming, and we kept seeing something swoop down in our yard and then fly off. Turns out, it was Harry and/or Hermione.  They kept coming back, swooping quite low, almost as if they were annoyed that we were in their hunting space!  After all, it was dark out, and it was time for them to hunt!

Here he is, early morning, just barely peeking out at me. I waited a long time for him to pop his head out!

The next morning, I went outside in the backyard very early with Bella, our puppy, and just happened to look up in the nesting box that is located in one of our trees.  The nesting box that had been in our tree waiting for someone to move in for several years.  I had actually quit checking the box.  I just assumed no one liked our location.

After all, we do back up to a pretty busy road.  But this morning, the nesting box was not empty.  I could see Harry or Hermione barely peeking out of the box!

I was so excited.  I waited all day for him to pop his head out of the box, and finally, right as the sun began to set, he popped his head out and let me take a few photos!  I think I’m going to need a new lens for this adventure!  Being stuck in the house while we all wait out this crazy Corona virus suddenly became a bit more bearable!

I’m so excited to watch Harry and Hermione for the next few weeks!  Maybe some babies will show up soon.  I’ll keep you posted!  That would be quite exciting to see in my own backyard!

I’m so happy that Harry and Hermione decided to stay awhile.  Now I’m off to find a book on Eastern Screech Owls.  I’m going to do everything I can to make their stay here in my backyard a pleasant one!  Enjoy the pictures. I’m sure there will be more to come.  Until next time…
