Ah, summer—the season of sunshine, lazy days, and cherished family moments. With kids home from college and loved ones visiting from all over, it’s the perfect time to capture those special memories forever with some family photos. While the thought of braving the summer heat might seem daunting, fear not! We have some fantastic ideas for your family photos that will make you forget all about the temperature.
How about some early morning family photos? When you wake up before the crack of dawn! This may not sound like the ideal summer activity, but trust us, it’s worth it. Early morning photo sessions offer a serene and magical ambiance. Just after the sun has come up when the cooler temperatures make for a more comfortable session. Almost (but not quite) like spring!
If early mornings aren’t your cup of tea, how about chasing sunsets instead? As the day winds down, the light takes on a dreamy quality that creates the perfect light for your family photos. The setting sun provides a natural, warm backlight, creating a stunning backdrop for your pictures. Plus, the cooler evening breeze will keep everyone feeling fresh and relaxed.
When the summer heat becomes too intense, it’s time to cool off by the water. Creekside or lakeside family photos is a wonderful way to beat the heat while capturing some playful and candid moments. Let your kids or loved ones dip their toes in the water, skip rocks, or even have a water fight. The result? A collection of photos that perfectly capture the carefree and relaxed spirit of summer.
And you can certainly dress up if you’d like to, but in my mind, summer family photos give you a great reason to show up to your session in shorts and a t-shirt – with or without shoes!
Sometimes, the best memories are made right at home. Gather your family on the front porch, surrounded by your potted plants and comfy chairs, and let’s get some family photos there. Candid pictures of family conversations and Dad jokes on the porch or in your backyard will allow me to capture memories of your family and friends in a familiar setting.
If you’re lucky enough to have a pool, why not turn it into a fabulous backdrop for your summer family photos? Let the kids show off their cannonballs and synchronized dives while you lounge on pool floats with smiles as bright as the sun. With water glistening and splashes frozen in time, your poolside session will be fun for the kids, and everyone will be nice and cool. Well…except for me!
Summer is the season for creating beautiful memories, and what better way to preserve those moments than through family photos? Whether you opt for an early morning session, a late evening adventure, a creek-side escapade, a front porch gathering, or a poolside splash fest, the possibilities for capturing summer joy in your family photos is endless. So embrace the heat, kick off your shoes, and let me and my camera do our thing.
