April 8, 2017 – Another Great Day at Connemara
Since discovering Connemara a year or two ago, I have been back many times. Usually, I’m hunting for birds to photograph, but there are so many beautiful flowers and trees, that I often come home with pictures of all sorts of things. On my most recent hike, I brought Zach with me, and we (unfortunately) ran into a few slithering friends, that sort of creeped us both out. I’ve been back since our encounter with the snakes, but I’m not sure Zach will ever go back!
It is a beautiful place, and you can read all about it, and how & why it got started in my blog post titled The Connemara Conservancy in Allen. It’s definitely a place you should add to your list of places to see if you’re in the Allen area. And…don’t forget your camera.
You might consider packing yourself a little picnic lunch. Just outside the gates of the conservancy is a nice park. It has a few picnic tables and a small playground to enjoy once you’ve finished hiking around the fields in the Connemara area.
After I posted a few pictures of the snakes we saw and Connemara on Facebook, many people sent me a message saying “Don’t worry – that is just a water snake. They are harmless!” What? Are you crazy? A snake is a snake in my mind. I don’t want to stick around long enough to find out if it’s harmless or not!
